In this year’s upcoming Oscars, two films, The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once have four actors each who are nominated. This got me wondering, what other films have had multiple acting winners? And has any film swept all four of the acting categories? Let’s take a look!
Best Actress and Supporting Actress winners from the same films is the most common combination
No film has swept all acting categories, but A Streetcar Named Desire and Network came closest. A Streetcar Named Desire won Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. Marlon Brando was nominated for Best Actor for A Streetcar Named Desire, but he lost out to Humphrey Bogart for The African Queen.
Network had the same fate in that it won Best Actress, Best Actor, and Supporting Actress, but Ned Beatty lost out on Best Supporting Actor to Jason Robards for All the President's Men.
These shared winning experiences don’t come around too often
The last time at least 3 acting winners from the same film occurred came more than 45 years ago with 1976's Network with Best Actor, Actress, and Supporting Actress. It was 25 years ago when Best Actress and Supporting Actress came from Shakespeare in Love. It was also 25 years ago when both Best Actor and Best Actress came from As Good As It Gets. And it’s been over 30 years when the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress came from My Left Foot. So far, 39 films have had more than 1 acting winner (although it's looking more like it'll be 40 if Everything Everywhere All At Once can pull it off).
