The Oscars are now a week away! It’s been so exciting seeing the various films duke it out in the other award shows like the SAG Awards, Critics Choice, and Golden Globes. But just like the Olympics, it doesn’t matter how many world championships you win, it’s all about the gold medal. And for those in the film industry, it’s all about the golden Oscar.
Yes, Debbie Downers love ragging on how this is for the Hollywood Elite and the rich and powerful and nobody cares about who wins as it’s all self-congratulatory anyways. But I bet those same miserable people love watching movies or engrossing themselves in some form of entertainment.
The Oscars is awarded for excellence in cinema and it’s no different than being awarded a trophy for academic excellence at school or for hitting the highest sales goal at work. The only difference is, those of us who aren’t part of the film community are invited by these artists to their party. We’re the audiences for their hard work and we’re being allowed to see where their hard work has paid off in the form of an Academy Award.
Before I continue, a huge congratulations to everyone for making it this far. Thank you to the actors, directors, writers, and everyone responsible for creating the films that we all got to see.
So with that, here are my predictions of who is going home with the coveted Oscar on March 12. Feel free to make your own Oscars scorecard and see how well your picks perform!
