LM23 Rating: I’m going to the theatre only because it’s a Marvel movie.
I have never heard of the Eternals. But being that it’s still the pandemic time for movies, I’m gonna go if the movie even vaguely seems exciting and is playing at one of the two theatres I can go to, then I guess I’m going to the movies.
The original trailer for Eternals that was released in the summer basically comes off as a really expensive B movie with a collection of not necessarily A list actors, but should mostly be recognizable.
Actors featured include: Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, and Kumail Nanjiani. I wouldn’t know that this is a Marvel movie if for not the reference to the Avengers and Thanos and a question of where were all the Eternals at when ish was going down.
I can’t say I know anything about the Eternals and what their motivation is and what the conflict is, but this next installment of the Marvel Universe swings more on the mystical and fantastical side. It appears the bad guys are all out CGI aliens of some sort with no humanistic qualities. Eternals is looking more like Lord of the Rings where it’s preternatural protagonists are out to save the world or something I’m not certain of.
The trailer doesn’t really ground a layman viewer with what the movie really is all about. All I can take from it is that this group of rag tag superhero-ish characters are the B team to the Avengers’ A team, and now it’s their turn to help save the world. The only trace of a plot I get is that there’s some hesitation or struggle to gather the crew to join forces and they have 7 days to get to work.
If this movie didn’t have the Marvel stamp on it, I would not be going to see it. The loud buzz about the movie being the worst rated MCU movie doesn’t help. But, I’m not that deep of a Marvel fan as in I don’t read the comics and I don’t know anything beyond the movies I’ve seen, so I’m willing to roll with it. It hopefully will be less boring than Halloween Kills.
