1997’s THE FULL MONTY was a surprise box office smash featuring a group of laid off steelworkers who turn to stripping to pay the bills. Twenty-five years later, the lovable group of working class guys are back in THE FULL MONTY television series now available on Disney+. Most movie-to-TV adaptations can feel forced like an overgrown adult trying to recapture its youth. But the television version of the movie is a wholly unique and independent offering. The modern setting fits easily with this throwback. And better yet, the entire original cast is back and in as solid form as ever.

Harrison Ford is 80 years old and still holding his own in 2023 in film and television. Nancy Meyers has written and directed several comedies that feature complex and compelling characters in their golden years. THE INTERN starring Robert De Niro as a 70-something former executive who applies to be an intern for an ecommerce clothing company and SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE starring Diane Keaton as a 60-something successful playwright who falls for a fellow 60-something lothario played by Jack Nicholson is a doubleheader you won’t regret.
Disney Plus
Gina Rodriguez executive produced the amazing and underrated DIARY OF A FUTURE PRESIDENT, and she’s back with another series that she also stars and executive produces, NOT DEAD YET. Rodriguez plays a 30-something writer/journalist who takes a mid-career detour back to the start line after a failed 5-year journey to London.

Actors are not yet joining the writers on strike as the SAG union has agreed to extend the deadline until July 12.
Tom Cruise isn’t done saving the movie industry. Tom Cruise and director of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING PART 2, Christopher McQuarrie are supporting their fellow film competitors by buying tickets to both BARBIE and OPPENHEIMER. This move hopefully will give movie fans the same idea and encourage them to go see all of the films rather than choosing one over the other.
There’s a new Superman in town. James Gunn unveiled his new Superman and Lois Lane this week with the announcement of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as the new stars of SUPERMAN LEGACY.
THE FLASH tumbles further into the box office abyss as it falls more than 70% compared to the opening week. ELEMENTAL managed to hold steady losing just 39% compared to opening week thanks to perhaps strong word of mouth and an A grade from CinemaScore.
