Blogmas Day 5: Little Women (1994)

Each generation has to have its own version of the original girl power crew of Little Women.

And although I was really impressed by the most recent one starring Timothee Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, I think the 1994 one still felt more grounded and humble.

Susan Sarandon was a more than believable matriarch for four young free spirited women who are trapped in a time that won’t let them be who they wish to be.

And Winona Ryder’s tomboyish Jo encapsulated Civil War era female empowerment that can’t be stamped out despite what society says.

The movie isn’t all about Christmas, but the holidays factor into the storyline at one point.
