2022 Movies to See!

2022 is here. Remember when we thought 2022 everything would be normal again and we could travel and walk outside without masks...yeah not this year.

I really hate this time of the year. The month or so leading up to Christmas is my absolute most favorite. But once it’s Christmas Day, I start to feel sad. I start to feel dread. I start to feel a bit lost. I’m that person who loves the time leading up to an event. I actually don’t like when the event is happening because I know it will soon be over.

Christmas being over feels so much worse as all of the reminders are taken away and what once was there whether it’s a tree or lights or other decorations, are stripped away. Everything just feels empty and boring. Then January comes and there’s nothing to look forward to. Same with February and March. April is when things start to pick up as Easter and spring are there and then before we know it, summer is back.

Despite the holidays being over and another year being over, a new year also means new movies. I’ve been waiting for 2022 for what seems like forever as several of the movies I wanted to see one or even two years ago, are finally being released. There’s a ton of movies scheduled right now for 2022 according to Movie Insider. Check out the full article link here: https://www.movieinsider.com/movies/2022

Of course, with the uncertainty of the pandemic, release dates may be modified. But so far, here are some highlights of movies that I’m hoping and I’m sure lots of you will be hoping to catch in 2022:

Morbius (January 28)

The next Marvel movie out of the gate will be the origin film for Morbius. As mentioned before, I’m not a well-versed comic fan, so I had never hears of Morbius. But, I have heard of Marvel and I have heard of Jared Leto who plays the titular character, Dr. Michael Morbius. Morbius is suffering from a blood disease and his “cure” causes him to become like a vampire creature.

Uncharted (February 18)

Besides superhero films, video game films are also popular. I’ve never played Uncharted, but millions have. The video game was first released in 2007 and have sold tens of millions of units. The movie Uncharted stars Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland. No doubt Sony is hoping the halo effect of Spiderman will rub off on Uncharted.

The Batman (March 4)

The vampire from the Twilight series turns into The Batman. It’s now Robert Pattinson’s turn to take over for the Dark Knight. I’ve seen all of the Batman movies since it started with Michael Keaton. And I’ve noticed a trend that the more current ones tend to lean more towards being more anti-hero than hero. After George Clooney it seems Batman is played by just off center and strange yet generic white men. Robert Pattison fits the bill perfectly. It’s surprising a big film like this is being released earlier in the year versus the summer or even fall time.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (April 8)

The first Sonic got a lot of hype when the Sonic character had to go back to the drawing board and be redrawn or fixed up before they could release it. I think Sonic looked great before and after. I can’t say I watched the first Sonic, but this one featuring Idris Elba as a striking red colored hedgehog makes this a definite yes to see.

Bullet Train (April 8)

The only thing I’ve heard about this movie is that it’s set on a Japanese bullet train and it stars Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock. In the Wikipedia page, it says the film is also produced by Antoine Fuqua. The same amazing director who brought us The Replacement Killers, Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen, and The Equalizer. I’m definitely here for this just to see Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock together in a movie for the first time.

The Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (April 15)

Who knew there was going to be another Fantastic Beasts installment? This time, the great Mads Mikkelsen joins the fantastic journey. Mads is one of those really ubiquitous but instantly recognizeable faces, yet you may not remember where you saw him from. His cold eyes and square jaw make him the perfect villain or maybe the quiet and misunderstood nice guy. Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law return to the franchise as well.

Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6)

If you watched Spiderman No Way Home, then you probably caught a sneak peek of Dr. Stranger’s adventures in the Multiverse. This looks like another big Marvel movie, so I’ll definitely be checking this movie out. But first I’ll have to watch the first Dr. Strange movie.

Top Gun Maverick (May 27)

The kick off to the summer movies begins with the long delayed Top Gun Maverick starring the original Maverick, Tom Cruise. After all these years, Tom Cruise can still make me stand up in attention and go see his films. All I can say is I hope this reboot won’t be a let down like Matrix Resurrections and that the trailer hasn’t ruined all of the good parts.

Jurassic World Dominion (June 10)

A brief clip of the next Jurassic Park film starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and featuring the original starring cast like Sam Neil, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum was released not too long ago. And it seems like those crazy dinosaurs are still on the loose.

Lightyear (June 17)

Did we need an origin story about Buzz Lightyear? Maybe not. But instead of Tim Allen, Buzz is voiced by Chris Evans. Did we need Chris Evans as Buzz? I think so. Am I going to see this movie? Hell, yes.

The Black Phone (June 24)

Could this be a sleeper creepy hit of the summer? Ethan Hawke stars in this latest Blumhouse Productions film so it has a lot of promise. The only caveat is it’s about children and you can’t ever get too risky with scary movies when the main hero seems to be the kid versus the creepy guy.

Minions: The Rise of Gru (July 1)

I have been waiting forever for the follow up to Minions (2015). Finally!!! I don’t need to know much beyond it’s the new Minions movie because I’ll be there this summer.

Thor Love and Thunder (July 8)

I didn’t know there was going to be another Thor movie. I haven’t really kept up with the Thor movies. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 5 years since the last Thor movie and Love and Thunder is the next installment. Based on the cast, it looks like Thor will be joined by the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Black Adam (July 29)

Another superhero film from DC. I’ve never heard of Black Adam, but I sure as hell have heard of Dwayne Johnson. But I will be going to see this movie.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (September 23)

It’s been 10 years since Puss in Boots. I must’ve been one of the few people who actually really liked the first Puss in Boots movie. It’ll be interesting to see if an animated film and character like Puss is still relevant with today’s audience.

Mission: Impossible 7 (September 30)

I can still remember standing in line at the movie theatre and trying to do some last minute studying for a French test before the first Mission Impossible movie started. I would never have guessed that more than 20 years later, I’ll still be standing in line to go get a ticket to see Tom Cruise in another Mission Impossible.

Halloween Ends (October 14)

Here’s hoping the finale of the new trilogy is actually worth watching. Halloween Kills was a huge let down and neither here nor there. A great cast wasted on a random movie. I’m also hoping Michael Myers will be less slasher and more stalker and supernatural in nature in Halloween Ends.

The Flash (November 4)

DC Comics is out in full force in 2022. The Flash flies into theatres in the latter part of the year. I don’t know much about The Flash, but looking at the cast, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will make appearances.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11)

It’ll be interesting to see with the controversy and delays with this sequel to Black Panther, if the movie will still be released on time. There’s a huge hole to fill with the loss of Chadwick Boseman, but the entire cast was excellent in the first film and I expect nothing less with Wakanda Forever.

Creed III (November 23)

Michael B. Jordan directs the next Creed film. I still think Ryan Coogler was robbed of an Oscar nomination for the first Creed film. But I think Michael B. Jordan, ever since I first saw him on the television show Friday Night Lights, is part of this generation’s new A list Hollywood star.

Avatar 2 (December 16)

The very long awaited sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) will finally be released. I am one of those people who never saw Avatar and don’t ever intend to. I always said sci-fi and time bending and reality bending movies can weird me out almost like a phobia. But the stellar cast which includes Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver will definitely not disappoint.

Super Mario Brothers (December 21)

I remember watching the TV show growing up. I loved Super Mario Brothers. I also watched the movie with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo. Were those shows totally cheesy and bad? Yes! But it’s Mario! This movie is an animated film starring Seth Rogen and Chris Pratt.
